I had some new tires installed recently and while on my way to work today, the tpms light came on. Should I take it back to the shop that did the tire work to have them correct it?

Yes, you will want to make sure they relearned the sensors if they rotated the wheels at all, they may be in the incorrect positions. Also check the pressure to be sure it meets the placard suggested.
